General Wheels, Tires, and Rims Question...

Hey everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but with forums nowadays that's obvious to all the regulars right off the bat with the "posts" being kinda up-front.
Anyway, I'm obsessed with my cruiser, but never really had 'rims' until I bought my limited edition...
Now I'm looking at the 'bruiser' add-on, but really more interested in upgrading my rims/tires.

From what I've heard, a PT Cruiser is not so hot on 20" rims. Is this the case? I've also heard that you can put dubs on the rear, but no greater than 18" upfront? A bit of clarification on this would be nice...
... also, if someone can recommend a package (ie: American Racing, Goodyear, etc.) or an 'ideal' setup, I'd be extremely grateful.

Sup Gravity, welcome to the forums and to PT land!! I run 17's front and 18's rear on mine and I could go 18ft and 20rr easy, I haven't heard much kick back myself on running 20's ft and rr but I'm sure you could I think it more depends on your driving demands more than anything, if you use this PT for everyday needs and all road conditions then I'd say don't go 20's but if the car isn't used that much put them on there, the way mine is I drive this car everyday anywhere and I'm dropped 1.6 front and 2.0 rear and have had no problems at all, 90 on the interstate or 20 on the brick streets up town, hope this helps in some way and hey, ENJOY, you now part of the sick and crazed PT peeps!.....I bought my wheels and tires from www.tirerack.com and have bought from them for a feww years now, great bunch to deal with, wheels came in mounted and balanced, just bolt them on and roll.

I am kinda new here myself, but let me put in my $0.02 worth! I have never done a study on the largest possible tire for a stock and lowered PT but I do know that the lower the aspect ratio the tire has the harder the ride will be. My Turbo 03 Gt Cruiser has 17" tires all around and 205X50 Goodyear RSA tires. It rides great a little firm but great and handles better than I expected and I expect a lot. So I know you can go bigger than that with safety. Do check with the folks at Tire Rack they are very good people!
