Default 4 Wheel Disc Question...

My PT Cruiser came with disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear. Is it possible to switch out the drum brakes with discs? Any insight to this would be of help! Thanks!

Nope.

There is a kit offered to change the rear hardware, but the master cylinder and proportioning valve are also different.

Since the rears only do 35% of the braking, there's no reason to even consider spending a few thousand on rear discs. They don't make much difference on the PT.

Bloxstudios, the kit is around $1400.00, I can think of a lot of things I could add to my PT for $1400.00. I agree with MX-5 unless of course you have money to burn, if so, then go for it.

MX 5 is right the rear disc would cost a fortune and if you drive a Cruiser with disc and without the difference isn't that much. The only advantage to factory rear disc is traction control. Rear disc on a 3200 pound car is overkill anyway.

Call me crazy but that doesn't sound like too much to me. I was thinking about allotting 3000 for a whole new brake system. Probably somthin like Brembo or Willwood. I guess that makes me crazy...hehe. Anyway, where can I get this kit yall speak of? Thanks for the help

Bloxstudio,

As most of the above replies have said, the rear disks don't do a lot as far as stopping power for the PT. If it's the look of 4 wheel disks your after, You can buy imitation disks at a few different vendors. Look carefully at my rear wheel...see the disk? The only thing that missing is a rear caliber. It fools nearly everyone... including me when I first saw them on a friend of mines PT.

I am curious as to where you guys are gathering your info from. Has anyone who has responded so far, bought them, installed them, and THEN made a judgement? An intake doesn't do much for power, but a crap load of people have it. Same concept applies to this matter in my eyes. Its kinda like a PTeazer grill or rollpan, not much for performance, but it looks just killer. I see 4 wheel disc as a cool mix of performance and cosmetics. The PT is very symetrical to me, and I like things balanced. My wheels are 5 spoke 18" so there is a lot of viewable area and a fake disc brake would be easily spotted, and I would just kinda feel dumb with fake discs. But everyone is different.
