Default '01 PT EGR Removal

One of the guys at work and I were talking while I was helping him out with cleaning battery cable terminals on his VW GTI VR6 and he was explaining to me how he had been removing some of the less important emissions devices. he claimed that removing his egr even gave him performance gains. is this possible? is there any emissions systems that can be removed from the car to yield any noticeable performance/fuel economy increases?

No gains from that. Just smellier exhaust and a check engine light. Unplug the connector on it and see for yourself. On a car like a mustang you might pick up a couple horsepower when you remove that because you also remove the smog pump, so there is less parasitic drag on the engine, but these have no smog pump.
CREWZIN and Busted_PT like this.

I'd echo that- EGR is good.
It'll prevents detonation at part throttle, and theoretically reduces pumping loses.

Cool thanks for the info guys. It was only out of curiosity that I asked, but we all know what happened to the cat who was curious?
