Default Air conditioning problems

I have a 2009 PT Cruiser. The air stopped cooling last summer. It blows air but not cold. I took it to a repair shop a friend of mine recommended. He said its not the compressor but the filter in a hose. He said usually they just replace the filter but this one is built into the hose (looks like a metal tube). also needs a new drier? Parts are around $300 and labor would be half a day. He said because of the way the Cruiser is built they have to pull the front end to be able to do the work.
Does this sound right? I am unemployed at the moment had $200 set aside can't afford more than that.

I'm not sure how he knew the filter (which is built into the hose) is bad and he wants to replace the dryer why? Sounds awful expensive. Did he put the dual guage tester on the system to check the pressures of the high and low side? What did he say about the pressures IF he did test it? The whole thing sounds fishy to me. Your friend might have recommended that shop but they don't know you and you don't know them. You can try buying the new Do-it-yourself A/C recharge kit. Not sure how much they are but that may be all you need.

I actually have all of the AC professional equipment with me. If you were near me I'd be glad to help. I just finished repairing mine and you could hang raw meat in my car, it's darned near freezing now!

It is better for you to acquire a professional and licensed air conditioning repair services. It may not be as cheap as an unlicensed AC repair personal, but it will help you in many other ways. Also, an experienced licensed professional is the best way to keep the system repair cost to minimum.

Coming from a person with the LOGO of an Air-Conditioning company as their avatar. I agree what you say, but please add that "The Company" the professional works for should be checked out first before putting any money down. References, word of mouth from others that have used their services and Internet search is a good defense against getting ripped off.
