Default Error Code 480 Help - Cooling Fan

Hi!
2003 2.4L Turbo - Error says Cooling Fan Relay 1

The high speed works - I can hear it when I go to shut off the car. Does this mean it is likely an electrical problem or should I plan on replacing the entire thing? It has not been overheating, but the freon is low right now.

Any help is very much appreciated!!

P0480 is the dtc code for the low speed fan relay circuit, not the high speed. The low speed fan can be inoperative and the high speed still work. Should be two separate relays in the power center under the hood, and I think there is separate fuses for both speeds also. Next would be a bad fan motor, also common.

Being an 03 you have a PDC (Power Distribution Center) in the engine compartment. There is both the high and low speed relays. The high speed relay can be checked by swapping the horn relay and see if the horn is still working (not needed since you say you can hear the high speed). The Low speed relay sits by itself (see fuse box below) and you MAY be able to swap it with the Spare (J). Really not sure if the spare is really there or it's compatible with the High speed relay.

O3 tubo has no relays computer operated only. You will have to replace fan that is year specific only. Their is a write up in this forum about the 03 fan.
