Default It's Hot and I'm running Hot!

I have a 2001 pt with a new head and water pump at 110,000 miles. Lately it's been running at about 3/4 on the temp gauge and it started to over heat after turning off the engine. The fan seems to only run with the engine started. I would like to try and figure out whats wrong before putting any more money in it or blowing another head gasket. Any help is appreciated.

The fan does run ONLY when the ignition switch is in the RUN position which is when the engine is running and it either has to reach a particular temperature or the A/C is ON. The fan won't keep running when you turn the engine off and leave the car.

As suggested, purge the system of any excess air, also make sure the fan is running on both of the 2 speeds it's supposed to.

Yes the timing belt was changed when they did the head. I would assume they would have purged the system when they did the work. At least I hope. The fan seems to be running only on one speed. It doesn't sound like it switches when the ac is on. But even with the ac off it is running hot.

Ok I purged the cooling system, it seems both speeds on the fan are working, it has coolant and no obvious leaks and it still wants to run hot. Is it possible it has a small leak somewhere? Would a leak that small make it run this hot? I'm confused here. It seems everything is working like it should be but it still isn't cooling like it should.

Check the coolant level at the radiator cap when the engine is cold. It should be full. --- The reservoir tank should be up to the line [1/3 full]. Is your mileage/performance ok?
