Default Changing a auto to a auto stick??

hey everyone newbie here,

i have a 03 base PT with the 4 speed auto. i would really really like the auto stick [] how hard would it be to convert?

i assume they are both the same tranny + a different shifter that electronically controlls the tranny, no cable (am i close?)

thanks for any help

Welcome. I've been told the only difference between the two is software and that means pcm. There is no way you could run a GT (turbo) pcm on a base PT. I don't know how you would get the software loaded on to a base pcm. Maybe somebody who knows more will say different. Anyways, welcome to the forum. My first PT was an auto '01 base model with the F package. My wife took it over when I got the '03 GT. I still love to drive the '01.

First post and you've got us stumped!
Anxious to hear more on this... and whether the reliability of the slushbox is reduced.

is the auto stick only a option on the turbo??

the pt is my mothers, im only 16. she went to the dealer looking at a liberty(would have been the best choice for northern michigan) but she went for the pt base $2,000 less than the liberty.

while we were there i noticed a pt turbo sitting there[] long story short i couldn't convince her the turbo was worth while for her [V](really i couldn't even get her to test drive it, that would have helped)

now she is P!$$ed at me because im determined to put a turbo kit on it. i keep telling her she should have bought the pt turbo auto stick and been done with it[8)]

Yes, the GT turbo only. The turbo lite (new for '04) gets the standard auto tranny.

The difference in the ENGINES between the 180 HP turbo-lite and the 220 HP turbo GT is the PCM. There are of course many differences other than the engine between the turbo-lite and the GT, including the auto-stick, the brakes, the springs, the seats, etc.

EDIT: MeanGreen, I know that you are aware of this but I just wanted to clarify this for others.

Back to the original question - there's really only 1 auto tranny, the 41TE - the auto-stick is just a control on the same tranny, right????? [:I]

thats what im thinking, i have seen aftermarket kits(haven't seen a PT spesific kit) that allow you to manually controll your auto's shifting

i would like to have the OE autostick shifter so it doesn't look all half A$$ed and thrown together

the one thing i really hate about this tranny is not being able to restrict it to second i like my F150 because i have 1,2,OD off(3), and ofcourse OD(4)
