Default rear wiper switch

when i turn on the rear wiper it goes 1/2 sweep and stops. after it stops i can flip the switch again and it continues.

i figured maybe at 256k miles the wiper motor was dying, BUT today i noticed that if i press and hold the switch so the wiper sprays fluid and sweeps, it moves like it should.

it is not the added water that makes it work, definitely a power issue.

so that just sounds like i need to tinker with the switch, right? or is there something else?

Could be power but if it works with more water on the window, that would make it slide across easier with less resistance so it could, as you say be a weak motor.

Make some methanol with that corn. I would say the switch. Just a guess on my part. Had to repair the traces on mine because of water infiltration.

You should do one of those mods that delete the unsightly thing on the back. Then offer it up to a good home where we drive our's in the rain and snow. Would go with the clean look you like.

Dibbs!

I think you mean ethanol

I think methanol comes from natural gas

Yep, your right thanks for fixing that for me. I'm always busting it up using the wrong word.

i took the switch apart, less parts than a window switch! i like it. I cleaned the contacts with a pencil eraser, then lightly with some 600 grit, then cleaned with brake cleaner and greased with bulb grease. i put it back together and it works a little better, still not good enough though.

there were scored lines where the contacts slide on the circuitboard(.005 deep x .025 wide), the copper contacts looked mint. i'll take it back apart when i get a chance and see how it works when i manually short the contacts together.

if that works maybe i'll re-tin the board and go from there.
