Default Cooling System Tips

Just put a radiator in my 2002 Cruiser. A few tips which might help others do the same job. First, while the rad was out I wanted to flush the old coolant out. There is a 6" piece of hose coming from the t/stat housing that ties into one of the heater core pipes. I wanted to replace it anyways, so while I had it out I first ran water for a couple minutes through the pipe to the heater core - water flows through the core and out the lower rad hose, flushing the heater core. Then I ran water through the t/stat housing side, which flushed the head and block out, again the water comes out the lower hose. I left the t/stat in, to force the water through the engine. Got good clean water out of both. Replaced hose, then removed the bleeder fitting, cleaned it, and wrapped the threads with thread tape before installing. Removed t/stat housing & stat, then installed new Spectra radiator. Filled cooling system through t/stat hole, then installed stat and housing, top rad hose and topped off system. I opened the bleeder about 1/2 turn and hooked my Mini-vac pump to the bleeder and used it to get the trapped air out of the system, just like using it to bleed brakes. Worked like a champ. Ran engine until stat opened, and re-checked bleeder - only got a couple small bubbles before solid coolant. Temp stayed rock solid just touching the middle temp line on test drive, and bleeder had solid fluid when I checked it next AM. Using the Mini-vac definitely seemed to help the bleeding process.
