Question 2006 PT Cruiser Clutch Pedal

Hi everyone,

I adjusted the clutch pedal using by loosing the nut on the white plastic adapter. The pedal height is now is at max height. When I move it back to the stock position the clutch will not engage. I just changed the hydraulic fluid after 90K. Any ideas to why it works a when the pedal height is at max height?

Thanks in advance,

Phillip

I'm going to guess that with the pedal higher you get a longer stroke in the master cylinder. That would indicate some fluid is leaking past the piston seals instead of operating the slave cylinder. You probably need to rebuild or replace the master..... or the slave.

If there is air in the system that could also cause the pedal to need more travel. Did the clutch pedal operate properly before you changed the fluid? If it did but now it doesn't, that's a sign that the bleed was done incorrectly. Some times instead of a bleed, pumping the pedal vigorously about 20 times can cycle enough fluid to carry any air bubbles out of the system.

Hi,
There is no leak at the master or slave cylinder the tech at the dealer checked it out, bone dry. This started when it was really hot a few weeks ago. I read the thread about heat and the clutch pedal. I took the advice of pumping the pedal and no luck. THe dealer indicated it could be an internal leak, not sure how true that is. No It didn't operate properly for 3 weeks prior to the hydraulic fluid change. I thought there might have been water in the line causing issues. If you have any ideas it would much appreciated.

Replacing the master and slave is one unit and comes pre filled.

Thanks in advance.

Discovering; There is a way to bleed the late model clutches. I wrote how in a thread a few months ago. Can't find it though.
