hate to burst your bubble, it's not easy. the whole dash has to come out and the freon has to be purged from the system. i paid to have mine done.

What did that cost? I just got an estimate of $1100. $250 for the core, even though I just found one on-line for $25.

You could go with a block seal product. If it will seal a block or head. It will seal a heater-core.

think it ran around $1400 with their parts. they agreed to use my parts (bought online) total cost $800 and change. also had them replace the ac evap core (bought online as well) since it's right next to the heater core. no charge for that as they had to remove the original one anyway.

So you folks with bad heater cores, how often did you change your coolant?

How many miles when the cores started leaking?

Also do you per chance park under pine trees or maple trees, fill the duct full of debris?

I havent heard of too many bad heater cores on PTs

I bought mine 1 year ago with 68k. Drained and replaced the coolant with Chrysler HOAT at that time. The ducts were always clean, not that I think that that should make a differnce?
The car now has 90k, I went to get the cooling system flushed after repalcing the head gasket and they told me the core was leaking.
I'm not sure if that could be a result of the high temps when the head gasket blew, or a result of the cleaner and pressure during the flush?

Do they make a product that will work with HOAT? I may go that route since this wil definitely not be a keeper after all these problems.

Some are a leave in with the coolant. Some you drain the system and do the treatment and then put the coolant back in. I don't think it matters what brand coolant you use.
