Default Transmission slips intermittently after hard braking

I've got a 2008 PT with approximately 66,000 miles (vin B). It's an automatic. Sometimes if I slam on the brakes, the transmission will slip when I give it gas. The fluid level is between the two dots. I changed the fluid using ATF+4 and a Mopar filter. The problem only happens intermittently after hard braking. The vehicle is still under warranty for another 20,000 miles.

Any idea what the problem is?

Question Re: Transmission slips intermittently after hard braking

Does the check engine light come on when it happens?...If so,is it throwing any codes?

If you are having to ask why this happens on a forum I might suggest that you take it to a Transmission shop as soon as you can to have the fluid and filter changed but more importantly have them evaluate your transmissions condition.

What you describe is not in any way a normal occurrence and needs attention of someone experienced before you have a breakdown. You may not see a code yet as the condition may have been placed in temporary or pending trouble code in the ECU/TCM files? These usually can only be read with w proper Diagnostic OBDII tool/reader.

Well if I take it anywhere, it would probably be the dealer. I'm not going to take it in yet because it only acts up occasionally. If I take it in right now, it's going to be really hard to diagnose something that's working normally. It hasn't slipped ever since I've posted this. The fluid and filter was changed at the recommended 60,000 mile interval.

So it was just recently changed?.....That could be an important clue,as this is a relatively recent problem......It could be part of the transmission 're-learn' I have heard about? Transmission Relearn Process. How to Avoid it?

Well the transmission had slipped once before changing the fluid. I don't know anything about making the transmission relearning the driver's habits.

Randy don't believe everything on a forum the PT Cruiser and most all Chrysler models do not have a transmission TCM that learns. I first read this having to do with the Stage 1 upgrade and did some checking. The ECU/PCM does not have algorithm programming even in the TCM capable of any learning process. It is my belief that it was a service bulletin released out of liability concerns so that anyone upgrading would get use to the new power curve of the new ECU/PCM programming?
There is very little interest in cracking the codes on the automatics in some model Chrysler product like the PT Cruiser. Even a DSP or DST can not change anything in the TCM through the ECU/PCM. This is also a problem on many other vehicles that are modded with a ECU controlled automatic transmission and modding up the power plant.

Sorry to say like I have said before our PTs have no AI abilities.

You ask for help and disregard advise???
The point that your problem has happened on more then one occasion is your warning sign to go to a transmission shop or dealer and get it checked.

I feel like 'Chicken Little'....Thanks Lynn,I probably would have been trying to 'teach' my PT next time the transmission fluid gets changed!

I would go to the dealer. If you still have a warranty it seems like a no brainer.
