Default Fuel Tank Drain Plug

On my 01 Cruiser the drain plug at the back of my fuel tank is leaking. It appears loose, and can turn to the left or right without tightening. Do I need a new plug or should I put a gas proof sealant around it?

Question Re: Fuel Tank Drain Plug

On most fuel tanks that I've seen with a 'drain plug',it's normally located on the bottom,to make it easier to drain before dropping the tank for service???....That one is located about half way?

It's weird. Even a new factory tank from Chrysler it's a part of it.

An update. I had a pin sized hole in the drain cap at the back of the gas tank, so I used this adhesive by Permatex to stop the leak. It fully cured in 2 hrs.
No more leaks!

Exclamation Re: Fuel Tank Drain Plug

Maybe you ran over some road debris, like a piece of re-tread;Be glad if all it did was a 'pin-hole'........Those things (and other road hazzards) can do alot more damage sometimes than people would think;I used to see at least 1 customer a month, come in after running over/hitting something on the highway/street.
