Default 2004 PT Cruiser won't start but I have power

Was in the McDonalds drive thru today, no indication of any engine issue (no oil light, no check engine light, thermostat was good) and engine just shut off. We got it out of the drive thru (which became a push thru) and a young man tried to jump start it, no luck. We let it cool and still nothing. I have power (dome light, radio, windows) but nothing when I turn the key. Cam shaft sensor and timing belt done in 2010. No error codes via the key trick. Took battery cable off hoping to reset computer, no luck. Battery was put in just 7 months ago. Any suggestions?

Does it click or make a noise in the engine when you turn the key?

Could be a loose,or corroded negative ground(TOP) or Positive Starter Connection(BOTTOM).....Follow the cables from the battery, going to the starter(red/+) & ground(black/-)

No noise at all when the key is turned. Will check cables to the starter tomorrow. Possibly the auto shut down relay from what I thought from other posts.

You don't even hear the fuel pump priming the system?

If you are not hearing anything, it sounds possible that it is ignition related. My first stop would be a quick fuse check in both locations (dash and engine compartments).

Could be wiring as suggested (take a look when you pull the airbox to access the engine fuse box), I would expect a low voltage code from one or more sensors though. But that is just me.

Then it could be the ignition switch and/or something loose, broken,or disconnected in the starting circuit(maybe in the steering column?)......This is just a LONG shot;Try moving the steering column up & down using the tilt lever, and try to start it in different positions.

This video gives you an idea of what's involved with the wiring inside the steering column, and starter switch.
