Default 2001 Starting question

Hi all, I just got a 2001 Auto Limited about a week ago-I love the thing- even though my girlfriend calls it a pregnant roller-skate. What i am wanting to do is have some major fun with this little beast. What i wanted to get was some opinions on what i should do in the following months. Price is about 2k for the next month after that skys the limit. What turbo would be best, and is there anyone in here that has any suggestions. I have always sad to say been a cougar boy for 5 years and have some awsome build ups on those so i know what im doing but any help is appreciated. Hopefully i'll be popping up more in the future.

Circuitliaf,

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the PT world. If you have that much money to spend in the first month, and then the sky's the limit...you should have gotten yourself a turbo from the beginning. You can pick up a leftover new 03 for a great price. Yea, you can add an aftermarket Turbo or supercharger, but the stock 2.4 wasn't made to give you a lot more power without the bottom end beefed up. Your gonna need that endless money supply if you intend to get serious with the power.

Circuitlaif,
Welcome, must be nice to have an unlimited supply of money. Hope you eventually get it the way you want, and hope to see you around.

Crewzin gave you the best advice. The stock 2.4L - like you have - isn't meant to handle a big jump in HP. The factory turbo has forged rods, meant to take it, the lower grille is bigger for an intercooler, etc.

You can get a 180HP turbo cheaply without all the bells and whistles, then add Stage1 to it, and be over 220HP.

See the thing for me though is I love to have the sleepers out there. My Cougar for example pushed right at 295rwhp - dyno'd after I was done, So its not really a matter of getting the correct car to start, i like to make that "He came out of nowhere" look. My question to you all is, What would you all do with say 2k and didnt have to pay labor. Specifics please, Non-Cosmetic. Thanks guys/gals.

Circuitlaif,

[xx(] I'm getting a headache!

OK, go here: http://www.bstockum.com/ read all about some of the fastest PT's around. To get the HP your gonna need to get the "he came of of nowhere", your going to have to tear that 2.4 liter apart and do what Bob Stockum does with his engines. I don't know how far 2K will get you but consider it just a start on what it's gonna cost you. Good Luck.

Circuitlaif, welcome to the forum. I agree with Crewzin, you'd be better off with a PT GT, you could always remove the emblems.

I agree....you will have big $$ in trying to get the 2.4 NA to where you want to go .

For 2K you could add a 75hp shot of NOS, low restriction exhaust and an FIPK (air intake kit) without having to mess with the innards.

If you want more, as stated by others, plan on a a rebuild.

Bore/polish the pistons, do work to the cams, flywheel, gears, cluth, racing transmission that allows to shift no need for the clucth, pulleys, upgraded alternator, super/turbo, intercooler, large headers, exhaust, intake, short throw shifter, spark plugs/wires, coil overs with racing suspension springs, stabilizer bars, removal of rear seats and replace fronts with light weight ones, light weight tires.
After don't forget the brakes.
