Default Oil filter ???

OK you convinced me . My next oil change I will use Mobil 1.
is there really much difference in filters besides cost.I use
fram tuff guard or wix. There both around $5.The K&N is around
$10 is there really that much difference.

Jimbo,

Some guys hate Fram. I use them all the time. I've had numerous cars throughout the years and never had an oil related problem using Mobil 1 with a Fram filter. Someone posted a supposedly unbiased test of filter awhile back, and Fram wasn't on the top of the list, but I think if you change the oil and filter at regular intervals, you can't go wrong (IMHO).

I agree with CREWZIN...if you change the oil in regular intervals the filter brand is not that critical. Wix is an exellent filter as well as NAPA Gold both around $5. If you go in longer intervals then I would stay with the better filters just to be safe.
Mobil-1 is an exellent choice.

There is a difference in oil filters - if you read the study, where he cut them open and explained what he found, like the construction, filter media, amount of filter media, bypass mechanism, etc, it's quite convincing. I switched from Fram (which years earlier was very good before they were bough and "decontented") after reading it. Wix & Purolator rated well, K&N & Mobil 1 filters were tops. There are, apparently, 2 levels (prices) of Fram, the cheaper is trash, the higher priced one, not bad.

That said, changing the oil is more important than filtering - filtering won't take out acids & such that can accumulate in the oil.

MY OPINION.

I get K&N oil filters from TruckPerformance.Com - a dozen delivered for $98.

One on line tester thought AC Delco was a pretty good inexpensive filter while the Mobil 1 was the best if money was no object. My Mobil 1 filter cost about $12 with tax and that is for the bigger one designed for my GT although it can be used on all PT's! I know I can get the Delco for less than $5[8)]

The Purolator PureOne is an excellent filter. In fact, Amsoil rates it as one of the best (excluding their brand, of course ). I have used the Purolator PureOne for my GT since I bought it. No problems and they are cheap ($5-6).

I vote for the Pure 1 also. I have had 2 engines let go on me in my life and both had Frams in them at the time. Both spun bearings. Both looked like oil starvation. A toyota 4runner and an Isuzu Trooper. I am meticulous about oil changes and maintenance. Of course I couldn't prove a connection but it was a common denominator that I will not repeat. Just my $.02

Most on line testers claim that the only difference between the cheap filters and the MOPAR is the price. Why pay more and get no better??

Where I used to work oil filters were bought bulk, low bid. I suppose they passed some kind of minimal specs but it bothered me when I put on filters with the brand name of "Gohner".
