Default Radiator Fan Replaced - still have issues!

Replaced it myself at 133,000 miles - 2001 PT Cruiser. Firestone wanted $480 to do it. I got a replacement from Advance Auto (matched price from RockAuto) for about $90, and installed it myself.

Firestone had said the old one was burnt out and was causing various problems.

After installing -
the fan still does not run
the car won't go above 35-40mph or 3,000 RPM with extreme bucking!
transmission does not shift to 2nd gear or more
odometer now does not work

I did the cause code lookup described herein and got these codes:
P 1684 - Driver 5 Line 4 -
P 0645 -
P 1489 -
P 1490 -
P 1495 -

What to do now? Appreciate any suggestions!

Can I do this just by disconnecting the Negative battery connection for a couple minutes? or does it need to be someone with a Code device?

Disconnecting it will work just fine.

Also make sure that everything is connected and all vacuum hoses are connected.

OK
Just went home and pulled negative from battery for 15 min, then reconnected it. I double-checked all connections.

I then started it and immediately took it for a short drive and got the same symptoms - car bucking severely at roughly 3,000 RPM and not letting me go any faster! The A/C still doesn't work and now the odometer is not reading!

I drove back to the driveway and did the cause code lookup described herein and got the same codes again:

P 1684 - Driver 5 Line 4 -
P 0645 -
P 1489 -
P 1490 -
P 1495 -

What did I do wrong? Should I have let car idle for a while?

What to do now? Appreciate any suggestions!

The 3000 rpm thing could be a bad cam sensor. Recheck the wiring/connectors. Strange this all happened at once.

Thanks, will try that next I guess, though the code for that hasn't come up. All the codes seem to be related to fan or A/C relays.

Yes - it is very bizarre that all would happen at once.

Reading a couple other articles about being RPM limited - could the "limp in" mode be on in this car, and if so - how do I get it out of that?

Should I try replacing all the relays? I can't tell if they are working or not - or is there a way to tell?
