Ongoing Problem with Intermittent Rough Engine at Almost Idle

Default Ongoing Problem with Intermittent Rough Engine at Almost Idle

2006 base PT with 129K on it. Have been having a problem with intermittent drop in RPM with engine shudder (like it wants to stall) at 'almost' idle for roughly 2 years now. It doesn't happen while driving, nor does it happen when you are at a complete stop, only when you are just about to completely stop. Step on the gas to go, and it goes away.

It seems to be getting more frequent (once every week/2 weeks, as opposed to once a month/2 months). Have had it to the dealer multiple times for this, but since it doesn't actually stall (yet), doesn't throw any codes, and it won't replicate while they have it, they've only done maintenance type stuff, like change plugs/wires, clean the throttle body, full tune up. The car runs fine for a month or more, then the problem will occur again, which makes me believe it's never actually addressed with the things they are doing.

Has anyone experienced this, and how did you deal with it? I do not believe it's due to the A/C because I've dealt with that particular problem several times already, and that is not the same problem as this one. I've been wondering if something is getting 'stuck', like a fuel injector or something? I wanted to try one of those fuel treatments, but don't know what to use. I figure at the least, it couldn't hurt. And how often do you clean the throttle body?

The timing belt does need to be changed, but this problem has existed for 40-45K miles already, so I wouldn't think it was related to that...

Throttle position or idle air control valve. Would be a place to start. Pcm next. How to trouble shoot? Best wait for the technically savvy for that.

What part is the PCM? What does that do?

" ECM PCM Engine Control Module" - the "computer" - controls spark and fuel delivery. Costs about $200, then has to be programmed for you specific car with the VIN.
From my limited knowledge base, sounds like Idle Air Control valve - search posts here - some have taken it off and cleaned it with carb cleaner with good results.
Also - replace your PCV valve - cheap, and can't hurt - might be sticking.
