Smile Help needed: 2007 PT Won't Start: Alarm / RKE Module - SKIM Key Issues

So I've got my new PT on the drive - the Black Brick as I prefer to call it at the moment. This is my third PT by the way, I've had two LHD cars and one of the first out in 2000 which I imported but that's another story so I'm no stranger to these lovely vehicles.

I do have to say after a few days research that the Entry/Alarm/Key Systems are a nightmare!

Symptoms from the previous unsuccessful owner Alarm Module | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
which was sitting all lonely in the Trunk (we call it a boot over here in Blighty!

So where the heck does it go?
I'm going to take a look and try and re-install it today.

Beyond that if my next Auto key turns up I'm hoping to get the Keys - one genuine Chrysler blipper and one non Genuine Sentry copy key coded to the PCM.

Then perhaps I'm into replacing the PCM/SKIM Module or towing it into Chrysler to get ripped off - I mean experts to fix it.

I've also ordered an ODBII cable and softwaRE KIT to see if the car can help me solve it!

Please help with any troubleshooting and pointers you can.
This could be a long thread and you could be part of the solution!!

Many Many thanks in advance

Jonathan

The remote keyless entry module (RKEM) is above/behind the radio in the dash.

Is that the same on the 2007 model - i.e. Facelifted model?
Slightly different dashboard.

In addition I spent a happy 3 hours with the 2nd Auto guy and can now report that we beat the thing into submission and it fired into life !!!!

So - for those reading, it was a duff SKIM module - someone had obviously tried a homemade repair and the board was cracked and hand soldered...

Replaced it with a new one from eBay and got the key guy to program the VIN into it and code the Key the key to it and Vroom Vroom...
Great news - Will post some pics later but looks like I'm cruizin.

More later...

Question Re: Help needed: 2007 PT Won't Start: Alarm / RKE Module - SKIM Key Issues

I assume your power door locks still don't work at all, right?(only manually?)

Everything works now including the Power Door Locks using RKE - leading me to believe that the part is duff/surplus and a red herring?

Car passed it's test as well - flew through, guy said it looked like new underneath, which backs up the very low mileage now nudged 16,000.

The process to get the VIN into the SKIM via Software and the OBD/CAN Error codes saved the day because the SKIM just read back garbage such as yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.................. in place of part number.

Fascinating but very complex, glad I navigated my way through it and now I've got a nice very low mileage PT Cab Touring back on the road. I figure it was off the road for at least 6 months and maybe as much as 12 looking at the last tax disc.

Why anyone would thing they could hand repair a skim - internally - is still a mystery.

That's a good thing!.....If more people would just sell their PT's when they quit running for a reason like that, more of us might be able to pick them up for a few hundred quid.(not running of course!)
