Default Rough idle, hesitation when starting off

Non-turbo, 56,000 miles and started to have the above problems for the last few days. Had already won some performance wires on eBay a couple months back and when QuicksilverDon had the same kind of problems, new wires fixed it for him. 45 minutes later, new wires and all is well. Would have been a shorter time but that darn EGR tube was a PITA. Anyway, anyone with those kinds of symptoms, it could be your OEM wires.

CREWZIN,

It's the same symptoms my sister-in-law had with her 2000 Neon. In fact, it got so bad, the car backfired 3 times and had almost no power. Funny thing is, no engine codes were stored, even after the backfiring and power loss. A new set of Champion copper plugs and NAPA wires did the trick!

Scott

Scott,

No codes on mine either. New Champion Double Platinum plugs at 30,000 but I left the OEM wires on because there didn't seem to be a problem until now.

Yeah, Neons "eat" ignition wires, too. Dunno what goes wrong - is intermittent and not related to RPM, etc, but new wires are the only answer. My Crane wires have been holding up fine - already passed the life of the OEM ones.

AND... it must have been losing power as the plugs wires go bad. I just took it out this morning and gave it a good run. It feels new again (for a non-turbo), and the shift "burp" between first and second (MX-5's little mod) really gave a nice spirited jerk to second gear.
