Default Valve can't touch each other

We've heard, again and again when a 2.4 timing belt breaks, it's possible for the intake and exhaust valve to touch. (Valves can't touch pistons in a 2.4, pistons are WAY too deep)

We'll, it isn't. PT06 suggested to test it:

Note, '00 and older heads have a slightly larger exhaust valve, it still wouldn't be be large enough to touch.

What about with the hydraulic lifters pumped up?

I know they don't touch the piston. But are you saying the can't touch each other?

Sorry, sold the mechanical lifters long ago!

Valve might open slightly more if lifters are collapsed, but as you can see it would take ALOT more lift for them to touch-
Geometry is the word?

Try to visualize even .100 more lift (as in radical, superspeedway cam grind lift) and you can see they still wouldn't touch.

So there is 0% chance of bending a valve? So where does the interferince engine rating come from?

Busted, the interference comes from the valves hitting the piston tops and that's why the PT's 2.4 is a Non-interference engine, but the write-ups also said the spinnnig valves could hit each other when the timing belt broke. Uptown is saying that isn't true, they couldn't touch which means, if he's right, there's NO DAMAGE done internally when the 2.4 from the PT has a timing belt break no matter what speed your going.

Can't say why we have heard of damage to the valves at high speed with one or two members.

Well if that person was having someone else fix it. Well It's not unheard of for extra work to be called for either buy assumption or crookery. But our engines are listed as an interference engine. Saw that on RockAuto as well. If that hasn't changed.

The timing belt just broke last week on my 06 on the highway.I was going about 60mph when it happened.I just finished replacing the belt today and it seems to run fine.

Everything I've ever seen says it's a Non-Interference engine....

wikipedia.org
The Neon itself never carried a naturally aspirated 2.4L engine in its lineup, but a 150 hp (110 kW) N/A version was used in Chrysler's JA, JX, and JR platform cars from 1995 to 2006 along with the Jeep Liberty from 2002 to 2005 and the Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager from 1996 to 2000. The code for this engine was EDZ. As with some other engines of various architecture used in Jeeps, EDZs used in the Liberty carried Chrysler's PowerTech name. Unlike the 1.8/2.0L engines the 2.4L is a non-interference design.

ASK US ANYTHING;

Is the Chrysler 2.4 Ltr engine a non-interference engine?

No, the "Powertech" 2.4L Chrysler engines have valve relief notches in the head, so a failed timing belt shouldn't result in piston or valve damage. I have seen intake valves hit exhaust valves when the belt breaks.

Goes against what Uptown was saying.

AGCO Automotive Corporation
The following is a list of popular Domestic and Asian engines and whether they or interference type or not. Under certain conditions, any engine with timing belt problems may be damaged, so consider this a guide only.

Chrysler
1.4L, 1.5L & 1.6L Interference
1.7L Non-Interference
1.8L Interference
2.0L DOHC Interference
2.0L SOHC Interference
2.2L DOHC Interference
2.2L SOHC Non-Interference
2.22L SOHC Interference
2.3L Diesel Interference
2.4L DOHC Non-Interference (Valves may hit if camshafts turn out of time)
