Default 02 Sensors

I am a big believer in preventative maintenance and replacing parts BEFORE they fail if economically feasible

My 'new' 2006 gets >20 MPG on a trip, in fact like 27.x
I read about issues with the 02 sensors losing their minds. (upstream) MINE look stock; and am receiving NO error codes...but at 112,000 miles and 8 years in service is it unreasonable to replace the sensors BEFORE They go? I use BOSCH in every car I ever owned and NEVER had an issue.

OPINIONS???

I changed both of mine at 100,000 miles with no fault codes showing for the same reason...preventative maintenance. I used new BOSCH sensors.

I changed the upstream sensor in mine last year as preventative maintenance. The car ran noticeably better afterwards and it wasn't running badly before hand. I had about 96,000 miles on the car at the time. I say it's defiantly worth changing, plus it's cheap enough. I got mine from RockAuto for about 25-30 bucks I think...

you will also need to rent an oxygen sensor socket, at least for the upper sensor. I never messed with the downstream sensor.
most all auto parts stores rent them out for free...

kc; under normal conditions o2 sensors last 150,000 on closed loop systems. So I've read. If your getting 27 mpg highway with an auto trans, then be satisfied with that. If your mileage drops, I'd change both.

Unhappy Re: 02 Sensors

27 MPG is excellent mileage for a PT. I'd never get that here with all the stop and go traffic in NYC...

I got 27.2 according to the Cruiser computer. This was a 5-1/2 hr. + drive from WV to North Eastern PA; virtually ALL turnpike mileage 65-75 all the way

I still bought the 02 sensors.

Next is a partial rear suspension fix;(Polyurethane bushings) the watts link is clanking' Front end FEELS like it may have been rebuilt; solid as a rock but wil inspect too...

Then I will do the water pump; CAM sensor; timing belt; water hoses + REAL clamps; plugs; wires and super coil. Trans gasket; filter +4 synthetic fluid; Mobil 1 (?) synthetic 5w-30 oil change plus filter.

Rear GAS shocks and front struts at $ availability ;-) after taxes come in ;-)

27? Surely can't be anything wrong with the sensor, unless it's bad in a GOOD WAY!!!!!

You can actually view O2 correction with an OBD reader, this would give you an idea if it's reading too far away from calculations.

I have a reader that I have NOT yet tried on my Cruiser; the one I bought was dismissed by my 97 Taurus; we'll try soon enough!

Yes it was 27.2...
