Default BAD NEWS THREAD?? HELP?

well I did a plug change on my 04 a few days ago..and when I pulled the first 3 plugs 4-3-2 they were chalkie white,,,but whne i wen to pull #1 and stuck my socket down in there ..I pupped it out and the hole had a good 2" of oil in it?? WTF? so I put a small hose on my shop vac and sucked it all out befor i took the plug out...the plug was oily but not to bad..

it was throwing a KNOCK sensor code before this and was shuttering at idle...tak didnt move but it would stutter bad..

after the plugs it got alot better for about 40 miles not the stutters back?
I havent changed the sensor yet..thats next..

but the oil in the plug hole? did it blow past the plug? from the cylinder? plug was tight...I was prayin it had ran down in there from somewere else,,

any experence with this?..

Most likely, but not 100% sure, the spark plug well seals at the plugs holes need replacing. Also replace the valve cover gasket, but you won't find anything open today, so Merry Christmas.

Yep,

When I bought my Sebring convertible with the 2.4L engine, all the plug holes were full of oil. A quick valve cover gasket job solved the problem.

I recently did the valve cover gasket during the tune up of my PT. Here's a link with photos.

As has been reported, it could well be a leaking seal, but before replacing them, I'd just keep an eye on it for awhile. I have the same problem, although mine isn't all that bad. But the fact that it's only the #1 plug makes me suspicious that it may be from spillage when the oil is changed. I need to be sure and check it before it is changed next time, and right after.

I've seen an ad on TV from a company that makes custom fit funnels that seal around the oil filler hole; don't recall the name. Might be worth buying...

Wow, very nice info! My PT is about to hit the 80k mile mark, and as an old school olde farte, I'm going to replace all the hoses, and redo a lot of the gaskets. Seeing what you all have posted really does give me some brilliant ideas, so thank you very much.

Now, on the plugs themselves, how difficult is it to replace the plug sleeves? I'm thinking that if I'm taking the top cover off, I might as well replace those sleeves too. Just curious what your thoughts are on this.

I too have some really minor oil leaks, so might as well fix it all and get rid of any of these leaks.
