Question Code 0601 help

Hi Newbe here, I have a 2002 PT 45K 1 owner, got this code 0601 a while back and it runs fine, BUT I have to get emission tested soon, took it to my mechanic and says I need a new ECM, $600+ @ Chrysler plus $150 for them to reprogram it for my car + R & R, anyone have any other solutions to this prob? he says remans are crap and don't last, I trust him,......got to be another way? Thanx John.........have the code 0551 also but that's not a big deal, PS switch

I just fixed that on my 2001 PT.

Auto Computer Exchange sells refurbed ECM's with lifetime warranties for $159. Several members have bought these and are very pleased. You can get them from their website and they also sell through eBay:

2001 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Engine Computer ECM PCM ECU Replacement | eBay

And you can read my post about them here. They even fixed up an ECM that would look good cosmetically for me. Great folks.

Great Folks at Auto Computer Exchange A+++

PS: Welcome to the forum! You should introduce yourself in the new members section and tell us more about your PT.

John; fix the 0551 code first. Then write down any remaining codes. Then clear those codes. And see if any new codes appear.

Hi, From what I hear I should try to clear the codes first and see how long it takes to reappear, I know the 601 will stay around, I replaced the battery last year and it stayed, the 551 will take a bit of time, my garage is full and it real COLD in the Chicago area, as a side thought I did some checking on Auto Comp. Exchange they have 250+ BBB complaints, the Ebay feedback is good with 53 settled feedback issues, BUT if the guys here are getting good service they seem worth a chance, I see they posted an ad on here, well I GOT to make some room in the garage can't take this cold! Thanx!! John

The 0551 code is often the power steering sensor. You might try cleaning the connection contacts on it first. But it is possible to change it our yourself. And you should likely change the fluid when you do it.

Engine light on / Power Steering issue?

Thanx!! I assume it is not a dealer only part, I thought about dirty contacts, I need to get it inside soon! I will have to shuffle things around to get in the garage, the guy who I store my 67 Fairlane with fell off his roof just before the weather hit so the Lane has to stay home this winter, he is recooperating slowly........
