Default 2.2 crd rough idle

Hi guys

Hope someone can help me. I have a 2003 2.2crd. The car started idling rough about 2 days ago, but the thing is it only sometimes idles like this. It starts fine, no loss in power. I have read a couple of suggestions saign it could be the idle valve (witch it doesn't have), the pcv valve(can't seem to find it or the egr valve. Any suggestions? O yes and there is only 1 error code 1130 but thats something about a efi sensor......

Welcome to the forum.

The forum is based in the U.S.A. and they don't have the Diesel PT here (some wish they did) so if you problem with rough idle is diesel related, hopefully someone from the forum from overseas will come along and try and help you out.

Meanwhile, what have you done to try and solve the rough idle? Injector cleaner, new plugs and plug wires.

I do know the Diesel has a separate plug for heating things up, something called a "glow plug" and maybe that could be causing problems.

I had a diesel many years ago...
Diesels are very "picky" about their fuel - any moisture in the fuel causes havoc -- perhaps try a fuel additive for moisture?

Ameranth; I'd try the fuel additive first, as stated by Quick. Use a diesel additive only.

Check for engine codes. [example P 04xx codes are related to the egr valve]. And the engine has a computer and sensors. This is not your father's Oldsmobile diesel. Thankfully!

The diesel is a decent engine, it's Mercedes' C220 CDI. Lots of low end torque

I did take of the egr valve yesterday and cleaned it. Sort of worked, now it only idles rough when it's cold (first start in the mornings and sometimes when I switch on the air-con. I did change the glow plugs and refurbished the injectors and diesel pump about 8 months ago. As for the error codes it only gives me a code regarding the HO2 sensor in the exhaust, but that been there for awhile now.

I'll try the additive and see if that hopefully works. Sometimes I think the newer diesels has to many sensors.....

Thanks for the help so far guys, it's appreciated

Ameranth; Mercedes diesels have a good reputation. Maybe by fixing the 02 code, the idle will smooth out? I'm not a diesel guy. Try a mercedes site?

Just to let you know what the problem was, if ever anybody else has this problem. The culprit in my case was a sticky fuel pressure regulator. Car is purring like a little kitten.
