Angry Camshaft & Knock Sensor Codes- Again!

Hello- My wife has a 2005 Base model, automatic transmission. It only has 58K miles on it but one of the engine mounts snapped back in 2011 and we've had issues ever since. Approx 3 months ago the current problem started. It is an intermittent check engine light that comes with a rough idle, problems accelerating (especially right after an upshift) and codes for knock sensor & camshaft sensor. I replaced the two sensors and everything was fine for about 2 months, then it started up again. Anyone seen this before? I'm no master-tech by any means but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. I'm hoping it's something I can do at home but I'd at least like to point my guy in the right direction if I can't. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Jim in Albany, NY

Jim, welcome to the forum.

Yes, seen it a thousand times before. My guess is that you bought the sensors at an auto store. These sensors may look the same but aren't made the same. They don't last ans the cruiser doesn't like them. Buy some new sensors at the Chrysler/Dodge dealer. They may cost a bit more but once you change them, you shouldn't have to deal with your problem again.

Do as Crewzin said but also get tea target magnet ( behind camshaft sensor) just to be sure. Its like 16 bucks at the dealership

Thank you everyone for the advice. I did end up taking it in to the dealership and paying for OEM sensors to be put in. (Probably could have done the knock sensor myself but since I couldn't really get at the cam shaft sensor in my driveway I decided to let them do the whole job!)

Total bill was around $300 but everything seems to be just fine now.

Thanks again!
