Default can a 01 pt clutch be bled

just had the clutch and gearbox replaced on my 01 pt cruiser base model. the clutch pedal is very low and ocassionally I have to pump the pedal to be able to engage the gears, the garage that did the work said I need a new master cylinder as these systems cannot be bled in the usual ways and the new one is modular and come pre bled, is this correct or is there a way to bleed the system?

The manual says to 'pump the pedal ten times' to bleed the system.

There is a clutch adjustment under the dash- at the risk of being Mr. Obvious, near the clutch pedal.

I suppose it's like air in brake lines, pedal moves, but is only compressing air.
In other terms, pressing the pedal is (at least partially) ineffectual.
