So i just bought a 2001 pt cruiser limited addition

i'm new to this forum

i'm familiar with cars and know how to do things here and there like do my own work on them i know how to change transmission and engines and all that stuff but don't know much about what actually causes problems on transmissions

so the lady that i bought that pt cruiser stated

that her transmission was find before

she had done a engine rebuilt 30,000 miles ago

so before anything went wrong with the transmission she was driving it and all of a sudden the transmission went out of gear and she had to stop and then get it towed home,,SOO the Reverse doesnt work SOMETIMES BUT MOST OF THE TIME the car doesnt engage in Reverse...when i drive it Forward it seems to drive fine all gears change fine from a cold start,, she says that they start to not work very well once the car gets warm which i haven't tried yet.

anyways so her check engine light came on right after she had that problem with her transmission the codes that came on where

P0733- Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio
P0700- Transmission Control System (MIL Request)
P0732- Gear 2 Incorrect Ratio
P0736- Reverse Incorrect Ratio

So what i'm thinking is that it might be the TCM COMPUTER that might be the problem?

Along with doing this i'm thinking of changing the Transmission filter and Transmission Fluid

DO you guys think that it might be something that's Internal?

or should i risk and change the module and service the transmission and it will be all good?

thanks in advance ! AND thanks for reading..

anything help will be very helpful!

BTW How will i be able to erase all these codes? because i just tried erasing them with my OBD2 scanner and it would not let me

There are factory manuals ('FSM') that go in-depth sometimes available for download here. You could try search or the links in my signature. Google is your friend, too.

I don't know much about automatics, reverse requires more pressure than forward ranges, so if it's not going in reverse low pressure can be suspected.

Not knowing anything but a little I've read; there's sensors on input and output shafts- The codes are reporting incorrect ratios; obviously the ratios can't change-
THis would lead me to believe the transmission is 'slipping' severely.

Again, only a guess is that there's something seriously wrong internally, and best would be to get it to a shop that can hook pressure gauges up to the transmission for diagnoses.

Remove the fuel pump fuse used to work to reset codes on Neon and Pacifica
