Default Loud popin right rear area

I am experiencing a loud popping in the right rear area of my 2004 Cruiser. It's not a constant popping, sorta random. Before I take it to a mechanic I would like too have some idea of what it is. I moved away from my long time fixer that I could trust so I need all the info that I can gather.

I would remove the spare tire and examine the watts link parts. Push and pull the rods aggressively and watch for unusual movement and or sounds. Also take notice to your exhaust system.
If the underside of your PT has several years of accumulated road "sh....stuff" by all means spray a good helping of simple-green and hose everything off good. Then re-examine your suspension and other parts.

Agree. Make sure spare tire is tight when you put it back.
Exhaust is on passenger side, but it's often hard to locate a sound in the rear - make sure all exhaust hangers are intact - the exhaust crosses the rear beam axle and if there's enough movement it can hit the axle.
Watts link (bell crank) is fairly common and not a big deal.
Also look at shock mountings.

You know , something came to mind on this. We don't know what brakes are on the op's pt. I have have had a wheel cylinder leak that saturated the rear shoes causing a infrequent suction bond of the shoe to the drum. When it would release itself it would make a loud popping sound. Just a thought.
