Question Wife's PT not getting spark.

My wife's PT died while driving last week. No engine lights came on or anything, it just died. I did a little trouble shooting(I'm not the greatest mechanic, but I'm not a dummy either). It wasn't fuel, so I tested for spark and am getting none. Any Ideas?
Rob

remove the cam sensor and see if the cam spins when you crank it, just to verify the timing belt didn't break. no signal, no spark, so this will do what you describe.

year and mileage might help others give you more assistance.

If the timing belt is inside the black cover on upper left, it is spinning while cranking.

Rob, If it's spinning, that's good news. They hardly ever go bad but you need to check the coil which is under the upper manifold and as rob342 suggested, troubleshooting over the internet needs all the information we can get so please post the year and mileage of your PT. Also any maintenance work that's been done before the cruiser died that might have something to do with the problem.

It's a 2002 PT with just shy of 184000 miles. No recent maint. or repairs.

Try this...

How do you test a coil?

Thanks for the response Crewzin. I have already tried swapping the asd relay and eliminated that also. I borrowed a code reader and am going to try to get a reading later today after some other errands. I am also going to try to look at that wiring harness you were talking about, but it is so frigidly cold with snow on the ground here in St. Louis.

Been a while since I posted about the wife's cruiser not getting spark. Besides the advise here, I had many mechanics telling me crankshaft positioning sensor. So I changed the sensor and wow I got it started. But now I have a new problem. The check engine light is on and I am getting 4 codes. 1-inlet air temp. circuit high. 2-low reverse solenoid circuit. 3-Transaxle control system fault. 4-Transmission relay always off. All say the probable cause is "open or short circuit". Besides the codes the tranny is shifting itself into 2nd gear and not shifting to 3rd or o.d..
Any Ideas?
Rob.

Rob, Did you take off the negative battery cable when changing the Crankshaft sensor? If no, do it now, step on the brake pedal and button everything back up. That will erase the fault codes. Now use the car to see if any of them come back.

He said he has a scanning tool. The battery disconnect will not erase the codes they will remain in the pending file in the PCM which he can view with the scanning tool.
I hope that he does this so we can start to update this false code erasing information?
