Default Trouble Codes--Radiator

Yesterday my check engine light came on, here are the codes that it threw up. (Which I was soo proud that I was able to pull them up and figure them out!)

This is what I got:

0517-Battery over temp (I have gotten this code before, when my battery needed changed, it went away once it was replaced.
0128- radiator

Today I stopped at Napa and bought coolant for my car and topped it off. I asked the guy at nappa if I should take the radiator cap off and add some directly to it and he told me no, just add it to the radiator fluid tank. I drove around for about 10mins after I put the coolant in, and the temp gauge fluctuated between half way and the line below it, is that normal? What is your take on this issue?

If this doesn't fix the radiator issue how hard is it to replace it? Is it something a novice could do?

Thanks for any help!

Txh; Read some of the posts on this site about filling the coolant system. ---- p-0128 could be a bad thermostat, low coolant, etc.
