Default DROP IN AIR FILTERS

Ok Pt Cruiser enthusiasts, I'm well aware of K & N drop-in filters and their reputation of air flow, cleaning abilities. Are they the best? Are there any others out there that are appealing? What are the benefits, etc.?

IMO They are the best!

The opinions are going to get hot and heavy on this one!? And probably form those who never used them or did any kind of testing.

Good luck with "filtering" through the response to get facts and a good answer!

I personally use them when ever possible never had one fail or give me any trouble since I first used one in 1973ish.

K&N are as good as any and better than most of them. I've used the same K&N filter on mine since around 2005 (it's not the drop-in) and it's went through several differant configurations during that time. This latest one is as good as I'm going to get concerning performance, so it'll stay the way it is now. I'll put up a thread on it one of these days.

I have used them in many of my vehicles. I have an Airaid intake in my Cruiser. I like the idea of being able to clean and reuse. Better for the environment. I don't know if there is that big a difference in performance but I still think it is well worth it.

Here's a real world "test" for you......
AutoSpeed - Don't Bother Changing the Factory Filter

And some more "tests".........
K&N Air Filter Review - Debunking the Myths (and why OEM is better)

Basically a K&N isn't going to uncork any restriction in a stock or near stock situation. And it seems that it's likely a K&N will have less filtering efficiency and pass more harmful dirt and grit into your engine. And of course you have to know exactly how to and how much oil to apply because too much or too little are not good.

While I have not got the time or money to prove to you all I can tell you if any of you pay for a DYNO run you normally get 3-4 runs. I would like to see anyone post dyno graphs comparing the same delta with a back to back run with and with out using a K& N. And you can choose either using the K&N on the first run or second. PLEASE PLEASE someone post this information!!!!!!

We who have owned and operated both Chassis and ENGINE Dynos will tell you every time the K&N shows even or better results in most every combination even running with out any air-filter at all. EVEYTIME when this test was done.

I would LOVE for ANYONE to show what I posted incorrect with their personal vehicle run as I outlined!

I also want to mention the K&N uses Medical Grade material which is the only company in the world to do that with their filters.

The test in the reprinted posted version under the NICO articles http conducted was flawed and K&N contacted the original author who later followed up with re-vision to the article posted here in this thread. Some might find his personal opinion about K&N filters interesting to say the least! I will let somebody else find this revision and post the http to compare the dates and information by the original author so it does not appear I am biased or wanting to only correct some posted information.

I am truly not trying to start a fight but I think that the correct information be presented and then individuals reading accurate posted information make their own decision about K&N products?
