My brother is looking into purchasing a 2003 PT with a bad motor. What other years would be a drop in for this year model or what would need to be changed for other years to drop in. Thanks in advance !!

First make sure you actually do need a motor. Broken belt isn't fatal. You did not say if turbo or not. These won't interchange. 03 and up only. On the turbo, you would need to use your injectors if using newer motor. Also change any sensors that don't plug up to your harness. 02 back will not work.

Sorry, this is a non turbo application. And the motor is shot, someone got this thing beyond hot. Head is cracked and #2 and #3 pistons are burnt with heavy cylinder wall scoring. He can get this thing really reasonable. I dont mind changing the motor out.

Thanks for the info on year models, I was concerned about crank sensor and such with different year models. It will for sure get a new Tbelt and water pump before install, much easier on the ground in front of the car rather than shoe horned in place. Ive had my share of Tbelt installs on PT's

I agree.......Just to be absolutely, totally on the safe side, and avoid any headaches or surprises, look for a 2003-2005 N/A PT Cruiser engine, all mechanicals & electricals should match up.
