Default Revs limited at 2500.

I have a 2008 automatic pt cruiser, and the revs are limited at 2500. I was searching around and it seems to be a semi common issue. I was wondering if this wire hanging beneath the car could be causing it, and what it was? I'm not exactly well versed with cars. Thank you.

Sounds like its in limp mode. Take it to autozone or something like that and check for codes

I'll have to take it up there tomorrow to get the codes. The cel is on. I'm really wondering what the wire hanging is. My friend says it looks like an o2 sensor.

You don't need a scanner to check codes on 'Cruisers. Whatcha do is this:

Insert the key into the ignition. One click, you're in the OFF position. Two, you should be in the RUN position.

Cycle the key from OFF to RUN in the following order, starting at OFF:

(Start at OFF)-RUN-OFF-RUN-OFF-RUN

Or, in other words, click it on,then back off, three times, holding in the on position to end.

Delay between each click for about half a second- I've found that if I do it too fast, it doesn't work. But on the other end, it all needs to be done within five seconds.

If it's done right, all codes are displayed on the odometer.

If you have one that says P0700, then I'd say limp mode is a safe guess. If it never, ever shifts, then it's probably locked into second gear.

I'm ALWAYS checking this weekly, at the same time as my oil and coolant checking.

I don't think you want to be driving around with that wire dragging on the floor.

~~~~~~
Anyone who hasn't done so, PLEASE VIEW THE PHOTO THAT THEY POSTED to help identify what that is that is dragging on the ground.
It kind of looks important:
This one should be easy. That's a light cable by the looks of it, probably for a fog light. That's a 9006/9005 connector.
