Post Check Engine light, only when stopped at red lights

I have an 06 PT Cruiser basic model with 103K. The engine light came on and I took it the dealer to have it read. There was oil in one of the spark plugs.

I replaced all the valve gaskets, and the spark plugs. I put in 4 new Champions with 40 gaps. Cleaned the first cylinder of as much oil as I could.

The car runs much better, but I still have the light. It now only comes on when I'm stopped at red lights and in drive. No other time. I tried disconnecting the battery, but the light always comes back eventually.

There are no new codes.

Does anyone have an answer for me?

I have some theories:

1. I put the wrong gaps on the spark plugs.

2. the engine is still burning oil from the leaky gasket.

3. unrelated damage to fan or radiator of some kind.

4. need new hoses for the spark plugs as well.

You said that there are no new codes. What are the codes that you do have?

How are you checking for codes? If doing the key dance codes may not show up. You need to have them read by somebody with a reader.

Maybe just consider avoiding red lights ?

The gap of 0.040 is fine.
I think you should've replaced the spark plug wires as well.

That's a good point. I was just using my key. I'll try a reader. Any recommendations?

I got P303, for spark plug 3. However, when I oped up the cover, I only found oil in plug 1.

My mother in law had a fault in her car said the same thing. Her dealer just replaced the plugs and wires. So I would suggest trying that next.

I replaced the plug wires and it does work better. Still, light is on.

I have a new theory: Do I just need to drive it out to reset the codes?

If it didn't blink when I'm at red lights, I would think that would be the answer.

Any suggestions?

Other causes -
Intake gasket leaking
Injector clogged
low compression

Does it idle smoothly?
