Default AC delete

i see they list a non-ac belt. since i'm setting my car up as a winter car, i may delete the compressor and all associated hardware. i really like the idea of having more room to work, less rotating parts, and less weight.

is it safe to ASSume that a PT without air would have the belt routed like this?

Seems logical that it would run that way. You'd just have to figure out what length belt to use but I'm not sure if the tensioner pulley would put enough tension on the new belt.

I wonder if there would be tension if he run the belt inside the tensioner pulley...he might have rig a new pulley.

they list a non-AC belt at the parts store. i guess buy one and i'll just see if it fits. i'm just wondering/guessing if the tensioner is the same.

only problem is the tensioner would have to spring in the opposite direction to do that.

Sorry, what I meant was...depending on where the tensioner pulley rested...fully to the right...you might have some room to wrap around the inside...but, of course there would be no tension anymore.

Using a bigger pulley would probably be a better fix.

The ac plays a big role in the defrost setting. So if it works, be better to leave it as is. If not then maybe ok.

The correct belt mounting would be with an idler pulley added.
Too much to type calling you now.

I do know that in later years they offered PTs with no A/C. Maybe a later Haynes manual would show?
For the first several years all PTs had A/C.
