Default A/C blowing hot air

I have a 2001 pt cruiser non turbo. The a/c was blowing hot air. I replaced the relays, the cooling fan, because low speed was not working. The freon is charged. it still is blowing out hot air. I don't know what else to do. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

tana, was it ever blowing cold air, then all of a sudden it went hot? When it was charged, did you add dye to show up any leaks? Do you have gauges to see the settings of the high and low pressure lines or just throw in a bottle of R134A from the auto store?

Yes, it was blowing cold air. Then blew hot air, even with the vents not on a/c it blew out hot. Cooling fan was not working on low. I ordered one on e-bay replaced it. It now works on low and high speed. i just went outside and added freon. Well, the gauge that came with the freon said i was in range. But, i noticed the compressor clutch was not cycling on and off.

That would do it.
See if the clutch is getting power, if so, it's the clutch.

Lightbulb Re: A/C blowing hot air

Could be a faulty pressure switch.....If either the High or Low Pressure switches are not functioning properly the A/C compressor will not receive the signal to turn on.
Detailed instructions for checking the pressure switches can be found here:

Quick tip:
The low pressure switch can removed with out discharging the system.
BUT...The high pressure switch cannot be removed, without evacuating the freon.

Low Pressure/Recycling Switch

High Pressure Switch

I took the pt in to a service garage and they told me it was the expansion block on the firewall. They said thats why it blows hot air on a/c and when vent is on. They said it was a blocked orifice. It still had freon in it, and the clutch was working, They told me it would costs around 100 dollars to fix it. Does this sound right.
