Default PT Cruiser engine won't crank

Hi, I have a 2008 PT Cruiser Turbo Convertible. Bought brand new. In the 6 years I have owned this car there were 3 or 4 incidents of starting car and driving some where for something and upon returning to the vehicle, The car would not start. It would crank but not turn over. However on all of these occasions after waiting 15 or 20 minutes or so the car would then start. Never really worried too much about it as it maybe occurred once or twice in a year and always ended up starting after the wait time. This past Thursday my son and I went up the road about 15 minutes away and had dinner. It was a hot day so a/c was on as well as radio. In addition it started to drizzle rain so now add the wipers and headlights. Again only 15 minutes up the road. When we got there I shut off everything and went inside. Car was off for about an hour. When we went to leave I put the key in and Nothing. No click, no crank no start. Headlight worked, panel lights worked, gauge lights came on as well as radio working and seat belt dings. Dbl. checked I was totally in park and tried again. Nothing. Called my daughter to give me a jump, thinking it may be my battery was low. Took her 20 minutes to arrive so I tried once more using my wait and start method I used in the past (except it did not crank like it had in the past) and of course nothing. Jumped the battery...turned the key and still no luck. Had to get it towed and have no idea when they will get to it to fix. All I know so far is it's not a battery issue. Can someone help with some possibilities ? Much appreciated.

Off the top of my head, I'd say it's a starter solenoid problem. Check the wires going into the starter to make sure they're tight...unhook the battery 1st. Other than that, replace the starter.

It not the starter, might be a faulty ignition switch.

Get a hammer and a wooden stick a few feet long
Position one end of the stick on the starter and bump it with the hammer a few times then try to start it.
If ONE of the brushes hangs up and doesn't touch the armature you will get the no crank.
Same thing as cooling fan brushes wear then spring cannot push the brush against the armature and the fan will not run

That's what I am leaning toward too. Oh yeah I thought I was doing good with just under 20,000 miles on my 2008

Mine did the same. It ended up being the negative cable. The cable was clean, I keep them clean and use dielectric grease on them. I had just removed and cleaned them less that 3000 miles before it wouldn't start. I tried a number of different things, but it was the cable.

Ok guys thanks for all the input. Just wanted to say I'm picking my car up today. The diagnosis was that the battery was shot, causing the factory installed anti theft system to activate. Therefore car would not start. And just a tidbit for anyone who has had the car stall and not want to restart this could be the cause as well. The mechanic said this happens more often then you may think. Again thank you all for being so kind and trying to assist me with my problem.
