Default Replacement Radiator Fan rubbing

Car was running warm today. I checked the relays, they were good, fuses were good, but the fan never started. I picked up a replacement at Auto Zone, installed it and started the car. After it warmed up, the fan started and was rubbing against the radiator.

I removed the fan assembly again, reinstalled it, same result. It appears the fan was a wobble in it. When I spin it by hand, it moves, maybe a 1/16" ? The old fan spun very true, no wobble.

Am I doing something wrong or is a bad replacement unit?

The fan should not wobble. It's bad, take it back to where you bought it and have it replaced. Try checking the new fan before leaving the store.

Planning on take it back out again tonight and returning it. The wobble isn't the blade moving because its loose. The fan itself seems to have a bend in it. What a pain!

If you had say a 1/2" wobble it shouldn't hit the radiator. They don't fit that close. You need to compare to the original and see what is different about it. I checked the one on the project car and I have a ton of space between the blades and the radiator. 1/16" wobble on a plastic fan is not at all uncommon.

Check to see if there is horizontal travel in the fan. If the armature is not assembeled on the shaft correctly you will be able to move the fan blade in and out and since its pulling air that would make the blade with motor shaft go toward the radiator.
I just checked an old one I have and there is no travel, in and out, if I push-pull the fan hub. If there is travel return it
