Default Battery replacement

Hi all,

My 2005 PT turbo needs a fresh battery, the last time in 2009 I went to Sears and they changed out the battery......but when I got home my power convertible top, windows and some other power related items did not work. All fuses were fine and the dealer said they lost the memory in my computer when changing the battery and the software needs to be reinstalled. This was a pretty expensive and unnecessary expense. I went back to Sears and they actually paid the bill. OK now what is the proper procedure if I were to do it myself or should I visit the Chrysler dealer and have them do it?
I changed out my 2009 PT battery a couple of years ago myself with no issues that I bought in Walmart for $45.00.

Thanks all,
Larry

Larry,

Try this: take the negative battery cable off for 5 minutes. While disconnected, step on the brake pedal to get rid of any residual charge. Hook it all back together and see if everything works. It might run ruff for a minute or two while the computer re-learns the settings.

To reset the convertible, discounnect the battery with both doors in the open position for ten minutes.

Thanks all for the help..... I actually called 4 places and they all had a price range from 130-170 to buy and install..... Walmart had the same battery as 2 of them for $75.00 installed, they hooked up a memory saver box and kept the computer alive, they even completely changed out the positive lead cable because it was frozen onto the terminal and did not charge me anything for it.

Cool.

I changed the battery in my '05. The only thing that I lost was the number in the trip odometer. It seems that I was lucky, huh?

There may be different results between gen1 and gen2 Cruisers when changing out the battery - what with the can bus and all.
