Default RPM

My rpm is idling to high when stationary (you can hear the motor revving out) but is OK when driving, does this sound like a spark plug problem ?

Welcome, Renae!
No, not likely spark plugs, suspect more the "fast idle" - what used to be called "choke" when you start a cold engine isn't dropping off.
How fast is fast? RPM at normal idle is about 750. Fast idle is about 1,000. With A/C on, somewhere in between.

It's idling at 1,000 the problem has only arisen over the last 3 days (I've had my PT for 3 years) rpm prior to this was at 750, it's not a case of being cold as it occurring at all times stopping at traffic lights etc.

Check that Air Conditioning isn't on - that calls for higher RPM (tho typically not 1,000). If A/C is off, then it's the fast idle (I think) which is controlled by the engine computer. Used to be the fast idle was mechanically set, and sometimes it would stick - "punching" the gas pedal hard and fast would often release it. I don't believe that's the case any longer.
Any other opinions?

Welcome, Eabell.
Doubt it's the fuel filter, and hope it isn't - that's in the fuel tank!
Lotsa posts 'bout plugs and wires - I had a "miss" at about 30,000 miles. I put in Champion platinum plugs & Crane wires, and no problems since. I'm now at 73,000 miles.

Eabell,
At 30K miles you are due for your first spark plug change.

Hi to all,

Just thought Id share that I found out why my rpm was idling to high, it was the PV hose, it had split. New hose problem solved.

Thanks to the nice people that responded to my problem.
