Default Won't shift.....sometimes

Have a 2006 PT Cruiser. Normally it works fine. However, for the past few months it will not shift out of first. If I stop and shut the car down and then restart, it will then shift fine. However, it is becoming more frequent. Any help would be appreciated.

PCM controls Solenoid pack on the side of the transmission.
Codes?
Mileage?
Ever have it serviced: fluid and filter
Ever drive through large deep water runoff?
Fluid Level?

Will it go on and shift if you let off the throttle? In other words, have you tried accelerating normally to where it should shift and then when it doesn't, let off the throttle and see if it goes on and shifts?

Then, if it does, come to a stop and accelerate at a very slow rate up to normal speed and see if it shifts normally. In other words, just a very slight part throttle acceleration. Will it shift then?

ALSO...when it acts up, try coming to a stop, pull the shifter down into low, first gear manually and then shifting into second gear manually when you get her wound up and see what happens.

If Joe is right and it's internal to the transmission, it probably won't shift, but it might if it's a computer problem with the shift points or another problem.

AND, it the first and second things happen...I may have a suggestion for ya that is unrelated to the transmission. But that's ONLY if the answer to the first two questions is yes.
