Default Overheating when AC is turned on

Hello guys!

I have a 2006 PT Cruiser touring edition 2.4 and noticed that my car starts to over heat when I have the AC on. The AC actually stops working well when I'm in idle, however once I am on the freeway, the car is able to cool down, and the AC kicks in just fine. I popped the hood and let my car idle with the AC turned on, and sure enough my Radiator fan was not coming on. So I ordered a brand new fan from Rockauto.com. When I called around looking to get the best pricing, a mechanic told me he wouldn't put a customer ordered part because you have to properly diagnose the vehicle first. I thought that if the fan isn't coming on, then it must be broken. The mechanic said, it could be a number of reason that the fan isn't coming on, for example:

1) Relay
2) Module
3) Temperature sending unit
4) Motor

Can anyone give me insight or verify if this mechanic is correct? If so, is it better to just let the mechanic diagnose the issue or is it probably just a bad fan? Thank you in advance for all your help!

Respectfully,

Allen T. Schroeder

Find a new mechanic. The Cruiser is well known for premature fan breakdown. In the mechanic's defense, he IS right, to a degree. But for him to not install your fan (which you can do with very little difficulty), is asinine.

Allen, soyomb is correct. Find someone else. Even my dealer took my parts for the timing belt and installed them. They just won't give a warranty if the parts don't work. Ask around for someone to do the job for you.
