Default Horn honks just ... because!

Hello again, everyone.

I got the overheating sorted out; now there's a new item.

I was unloading groceries from my car, and with a handful of bags--while inside the house--I heard a horn, honking.

It turned out to be mine.

The liftgate was still open so I closed it to see if the horn would stop honking. Nope.

Then I put the key into the ignition and started the car, then turned it off and withdrew the key. No reset of any kind. The horn kept on going--short, regular blasts. There was also a click, click, click under the dash that clicked in time with the horn blasts.

So I go into the garage to get a wrench to undo my battery, lifted up the air-cleaner housing, started to undo the negative lead on the battery--but then the honking just stopped on its own.

I tried the Search function and got nothing like my issue.

Anyone know what's going on? I'd appreciate if anyone could tell me.

Thanks,

Tim

You took off "the connector" at the horn, itself? I'll check into that.

But this honk, honk, honk was more like when you hit the panic button on your key fob. Very regular. And there was a matching click, click, click somewhere in the dash, at the same time.

Also, it just stopped on its own--as if the entire sequence was on a timer.

I don't know how long the alarm goes on, but I would assume it stops after a good five minutes, or so.

that click click click sound might be coming from your RKE Module which could explain the honking, maybe you pressed the panic button and didn't notice?
On my 03' if I press the panic button the horn starts beeping and I can hear a click click click sound everytime the horn beeped. That's my theory which might be wrong

Racer, I think you got it right.

My wife says I must have bent over while unloading groceries in the kitchen and pressed the panic button, unknowingly. Since I've never done it before, I had no idea that you were supposed to press the panic button once again to make it stop.

The honking shuts off automatically, she says, to keep the battery from running low.

It might be a good thing if I went through my owner's manual again ... after all these years.

Thanks for the replies, folks,

Tim
