Default misfire/rough idling with a/c on

Hey all,

The a/c on my Pt hasn't been working for the past month or so. I finally narrowed down the problem to the compressor not sucking in the freon. This being the case I tried changing the clutch cycle switch to see if I could fix the problem on the cheap, and it worked! The air wasn't very cold so I checked the freon pressure with a kit and saw it needed servicing, which I then did.

However, immediately after I started experiencing rough idling with the a/c on. turn off that button and it's smooth. The problem has persisted for a few days now and I am looking for probable causes. I tried taking off the negative terminal to reset the computer systems as I saw that in some other threads it helped, but the problem still occurs.

Any advice would be appreciated!
Dave

check to see if the radiator fan is coming on. it should as soon as the ac is turned on.

Sounds like high pressure , over charge of freon if the fan is running.

So how would I go about letting pressure off?

You will need to have someone with a set of guages check the pressure. Its not legal to vent it into the atmosphere and then
you risk loosing the whole charge if the valve gets stuck. A recovery machine is needed to draw off excess freon if its over
charged and an experianced person with their guages can tell by the pressure if there may be another issue . Double check
several times that the condenser fan is running when the AC is turned on, as they start to fail they run with less reliability.

AND, if you had a large leak and lost all your freon, it may have taken on moisture and air which will also cause high pressure.
That would be like opening a AC system, then it would be necessary to have the system evacuated with a special pump
then if it holds the vacuum over a period of time, it can then be recharged.
