Thats the way mine have come out, its doable. But your going to have to support the transmission while and after the motor is pulled
Hope your doing the timing belt, water pump, tensioner, idler and maybe the cam seals before you install the motor and there is a accessory idler that you probably want to change too. Plus motor mount

I personally think taking both it the botom is the way to go. Male sure your going back with 01 or 02 repacement. 03and newer won't work.

Sorry I forgot you said standard, Mine were auto and the trans input supports the converter until its bolted in, standard would difficult.
You may want to follow previous post and do the bottom route. Reguardless its tight. Or pull pull engine and trans together
