How many miles are on your PT and has the timing belt ever been changed? Did the car just quit running or did you park it and then it just not start the next time you tried to start it? And did it show any symptoms before this?

Also, there is a difference in getting no codes and not being able to connect with a code reader. Is the code reader giving an error or is it just coming back with no codes?

Hi thanks for you interest- thePt has done 90k and had a new timing belt @85k , ran fine till car filled up with petrol, then wouldn't start. The only other thing was door remote didn't work, maybe transponder in key! ODBC did not give any readings, ( dead) key switching procedure doesn't show any odometer error codes- engine turns, jugs doesn't fire up

If it ran before putting gas in, but not after, I would think it may be something in the fuel system.

I would try to borrow a scanner that works on PT Cruisers and test it myself. Never trust a repair shop to tell you something without a second opinion.

Did you try unplugging the battery and plug it back in. Sometimes a sensor will go out and you can reset the computer by unplugging the battery. I have done this many times to get my PT Cruiser going again to get home and figure out what failed. This way I eliminate certain things with this method.

sounds like the problem i had back in 05''
turned out to be that theft module around the ignition.
mines would crank kind chug from flooding but no start.
took the column apart at my job
found a black box around my ignition and removed it with the
ignition out and started the car with a screw driver.
plug the box back in and car just stalled and kept making a beeping sound.
if you can just remove the two phillip screws that hold the plastics to the
column together, i think it might be worth a try.
you cant miss the black box it has a ring that goes right around the ignition.
myckee likes this.

As the other poster mentioned, it could be the sentry key immobilizer acting up. Do you have a second key to try? If so, take your spare GREY HEADED key (needs to be a grey key because the chip is inside) and try to start your car.

A similar thing happened on a friends Dodge ram truck. Drove his truck to the ski lodge and parked it. Came out a little while later and the truck wouldn't start. We tried his second spare key and it worked.

The fact that your remote for the keyless entry also stopped working at the same time maybe is an indicator. The SKIM and RKE are two separate modules, on an 01, but are probably linked somehow.

I don't know if this will work but try opening the rear hatch with the chipped key. This is the method to disarm the factory alarm on several Chrysler makes. I assume you are using the chipped key (if yours has one) for your starting attempts. If that fails, and you have not already done so, use the fob to lock and then unlock all the doors, then use the chipped key to do the same.
Is there a red dot flashing on the dashboard?
