Default Charging System

Hi,

I am still struggling to understand the charging system on the PT Cruiser 2.2 CRD. I am in United Kingdom.
Before the car was not charging, so automatically thought alternator problem,
so replaced it with a reconditioned one still not charging.
Now from what I read on this forum the regulator is not a separate part ie
Not built in to the back of the alternator and the engine ECU controls or
regulates the voltage by a circuit.
Now I have today took the alternator off, to have it checked two companies could not test it, saying it has no regulator. the third company said yes it has
regulator and tested it and said the ignition side of it is faulty.
My question is how can I verify if this alternator has a regulator built in, and the guy also said that it has a regular but its controled via an asd relay and controlled by the circuit in ECU.
Both of these cannot be right it is either one or the other, please any help would be most appreciated. Once I understand the system, I hopefully can sort this matter out.

Thanks

Kevin

Can you find a Chilton's, Haynes, or similar repair guide that covers the 2.2 CRD?
We don't get the diesel here.

The lady guy should be closer to right. If the ads is in the circuit as the alt. then he is correct if set up as the 2.4s.

Don't know about 2.2 but IF its close to being the same as 2.4 there should be a fusable link in the heavy charging wire from the alternator to starter.
Check its continuity fom end to end
