Question About the Middle Engine Mount

Default Question About the Middle Engine Mount

Today, I noticed that the lower engine mount was completely torn. I first noticed a slight tear around 60,000-70,000 miles. I'm right at 85,000 miles. I want to replace all 3 mounts including the transmission mount since they're all the same age and I don't want to have to worry about them. My question is engine removal necessary to remove the middle engine mount or can it be done while replacing the timing belt? Just to clarify, I'm talking about the circular mount between the two torque struts.

I thought about replacing the transmission mount when I was replacing the two torque struts but I was concerned about putting stress on the center motor mount. I will be replace my transmission and center mount when I replace my timing belt and water pump.

That's probably what I'll do as well. I'm just going to replace the one that's obviously torn for right now and then replace the rest in 15,000 miles.

The center mount bares almost all the weight and stress anyway. Ironically, the center mounts I see on salvage PT's usually looks to be in good shape. But the torque struts are almost always worn or bad. It's very possible that the center mount doesn't need to be changed that often even though the torque struts do. Of course, changing it when doing the timing belt is still a good idea since you will be that deep into the car anyway.

You might want to check your upper torque strut. From replacing my Upper and Lower Torque Strut it seems that the upper one fails first and then it takes out the lower one. If the 4.720 alignment is out that would be another indication that your upper one may be bad. You can also take a flashlight and see if it cracked.

I'll probably measure it. It's kinda hard to see with the power steering and AC lines above it. From what I can see, it still looks good.
