alternator problems

Default alternator problems

I have had my pt about eight months it is an 01 2.4 this past fri my battery light came on that evening it wouldn't start I got a jump from a friend I was able to drive about six miles and had to be jumped again to make it home Saturday morning I went to my local junkyard got an alternator spent all day changing it out when I started the car it started screaming like the bearings were bad it also wasn't charging they were closed til today I took it back they gave me another one I had it tested at advance auto parts they said it was good ive put it on today and still not charging battery light is on I removed my hot cable from the battery and it died instantly I really hate to buy a new alternator if the problem could be somewhere else has anyone else experienced this problem or have any ideas

It's probably a wiring problem and not an alternator problem. My advice would be to find a wiring diagram (page 12-19 if you have a Haynes manual). I would start by checking fuse #13. If that's good, check the auto shut down relay. If that's also fine and dandy, I'd check the wiring going to and from the alternator.
